I’m Such an AFROholic: I won’t say I haven’t thought about it

Everybody Hates Chris star Tichina Arnold recently spoke to essence. And last but not least, the keeping-it-real actress lets us know why she loves reading Black blogs and why we ‘be trppin’. Tichina ‘Beady-bead’ Arnold’s career is back in full swing and she’s landing more gigs than she ever has since stepping into the entertainment industry over 2 decades ago. Below you’ll find several excerpts I pulled from her essence. She is truly funny! Well, how much are you in tune with your on-screen alter ego, Rochelle? Rochelle’s my grandmother, mother and aunt all rolled into one, so I relate to her in so many ways. She’s independent, stubborn and yet, through all of that, she still loves and cares for her family in her own special way. We have a good show and a good group of people and I think that translates to every race, gender and religious background. Everyone can relate to the show on some level.

My Degenerated Generation What ever happened to approaching a woman, having a conversation with her and then asking for her permission to call? What ever happened to dating someone exclusively for the pure intent of getting to know each other? What ever happened modesty, honesty, and clarity? Where did all of these things go? I had a guy approach me one day at a football game by staring me up and down from the back side until I finally just turned around and looked at him and then he proceeded to say “I like those shit kickers” referring to my boots.

He just stood there grinning with a mouth full of gold teeth and all I could think was is he seriously approaching to me like this? Not only was it rude but I was with my entire family. I really wanted to slap him. My poor generation has made inadmissible behavior acceptable. I just wonder where did we go wrong.

I have a slightly different version of that story My version: I can’t say I was one of those people that really enjoyed high school, it was okay, but it wasn’t one of the highpoints of my life. Its not that I was unpopular, I was just different, reflecting on my experience, as sad as it sounds, I think one of the only things that made me so popular and made me stand out was my looks, but I never really felt like I fit in I just never felt like I fit in with the “popular” people I hung out with, and because I hung out with this group and was viewed in a certain way, it made me somewhat unapproachable to the people that I actually would have loved to hang out with.

I hate how high school works Clearly an insecure person I’m not even close to being interested in a 21 year old unemployed, uneducated boy living at home with his mama and not even attempting to pursue something he’s passionate about Is it wrong that I kind of feel good about the fact that everyone who gave me a hard time in high school is a complete loser now?

The comedian is getting heat for a passage in her book, The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl, which encourages black women to shack up with Asian men because they’re more intellectual than black men. Azealia Banks Blasts Kim Kardashian Over Kanye Defense While some Twitter users were quick to point out how Issa’s jokes are racist, others argued that the entire publication was clearly satirical — and even if it wasn’t, there’s nothing wrong with Issa stating her preference for Asian dudes!

Who do U side with? See what Issa is getting heat for — and the responses — below: What stands out to me is 1 how much more straight forward Issa Rae can be about Asian women saying they are “ditching” Asian men for white than Asian women themselves, and 2 how there is a similar, unspoken diss of black men here as less intellectual than Asian men. Implicitly intellectually downgrading Filipinos.

Christ what have we done as black men to be shitted on like this? Black women need to link up with Asian men.
